The Hamma Vollrath 1722 Replica Stradivarius Violin is a stunning copy of the famous Hamma, Vollrath violin that was made by legendary luthier, Antonio Stradivari. This new instrument, made by Chinese luthier, Xue Ping Hu, is one of a limited run of instruments that replicate the original Stradivarius instrument. This instrument is of exceptionally high quality, much care has been taken in the construction and choice of materials. The top of the violin is made of specially selected spruce with a narrow and even grain. The two-piece maple back is highly figured and has a medium flame pattern and colour. The sides, ribs and scroll are all made of matching maple to the back.
The bridge is a three-tree stamped Despiau Chevalets bridge, the highest rating of bridge from Despiau and made of the finest quality of wood grain. Naturally, an instrument such as this has a full ebony fingerboard, for the best feel under the fingers. No expense was spared with the hardware on this instrument either. Both the tuning pegs and tailpiece are made from rosewood and feature Parisian Eye detailing and the nut is made of ebony. The chin rest is also made of rosewood in a Guarneri shape. If you decide to get one of these instruments you can be assured that this instrument will have just as much quality of sound and craftsmanship as an original Stradivarius.

The Hamma, Vollrath violin is one of the more recently discovered violins made by Antonio Stradivari. The first written account of this instrument comes from 1892 when the instrument came through Hill's violin workshop in London. The first recorded owner was Fernando Arbós, who was a well-known violinist of the time. Arbós then sold the violin to Hill's in 1910, who then sold it to German dealers, Hamma & Co. In 1938, Erik Vollrath of Munich purchased the instrument from Hamma.
The Vollrath family kept possession of the instrument for 40 years until The Bayerische Landesbank purchased it in 1976 for the use of the concertmaster of the Bavarian State Orchestra. The current player of this instrument is Professor Markus Wolf who is a world-leading pedagogue of the violin. In celebration of 300 years since this violin was made in 1722, master craftsman, Xue Ping Hu has been commissioned to make 10 replica copies of this instrument.
