Tap into the sound of the greatest mics ever created with the Sphere DLX. With 38 seminal microphone models to browse through; the Sphere DLX is a full microphone locker in a single unit. Employing cutting-edge mic modeling technology, Universal Audio has managed to faithfully recreate the sound of the most legendary microphones ever made. Building on the design of its sibling (Sphere LX), the DLX allows you to record strings, horns, acoustic guitars and other sound sources in stereo using just the DLX; all thanks to its dual-output design.
This game-changing feature eliminates the need for buying a stereo microphone, allowing you to capture stereo sources without the need for any external gear. Spanning everything from classic ribbon microphones to iconic dynamic mics; the Sphere DLX has something for everyone. Recreate the sound of revered artists such as The Beatles and Radiohead using the variety of mic models on offer.
One of the most unique and sought-after features of the Sphere DLX is the ability to audition mic models before or after recording. You can audition the various models when recording with your chosen interface so you can find the right sound for you. You can also switch between mic types, polar patterns and other tonal characteristics even after you're done recording. This allows you to hear the effect that differing mic models have on your performance and make an informed decision when it comes to mixing and mastering.
For more dynamic sources such as guitar cabinets or drums; it’s a good idea to use multiple microphones to recreate the tone and power of your sound source. Using 'Dual Mode' you can blend the sound of the two mono microphones to get rich-sound mic combinations. The microphone itself features a dual-output design with gold-sputtered diaphragms resulting in ultra-low-noise performance (best in its class). From recording vocals/instruments to voiceover work and podcasting; the Sphere DLX is the ultimate microphone for versatility.
A great tool for home/studio recording; IsoSphere provides a wide variety of pro-grade presets designed for room correction and attenuation to achieve the cleanest possible results. When recording at home, many artists/engineers will use some form of an isolation filter attached to the mic stand. IsoSphere optimises how the Sphere DLX works with your setup by reducing reflections and background noise by modifying the frequency response to compensate for unwanted colouration.
Employing years of expertise, research and development in the audio world; Universal Audio has utilised the finest components when creating the Sphere DLX to ensure the best possible audio performance. The onboard pad control features two settings that allow you to attenuate the microphone to suit various sound sources. The sleek and stylish design features a built-in metal grille that protects the internal components including the capsule. The DLX microphone also comes complete with premium-grade accessories, providing everything you need to get recording straight out of the box including a 25-foot cable, a robust carrying case, a shock mount and a mic stand mount.
As of 16/12/20, UAD plugins, Apollo interfaces and LUNA are now compatible with MacOS Big Sur. Universal Audio are still in the process of ensuring that their products are optimised to work with Apple computers that feature M1 silicon chips. It is also important to know before updating/upgrading that MacOS Big Sur is only compatible with Thunderbolt and PCIE-based devices. This means that UA FireWire devices are now incompatible. Apollo interfaces have contributed to the sound of hundreds of Grammy award-winning albums; and the Apollo Twin X is no different, employing class-leading audio conversion. The custom converters have seen a brand-new redesign, taking the dynamic range up to 127dB with -117dsB THD+N. The result is a spacious yet powerful sound that will take your recordings to the next level.
The thing that sets Apollo’s audio interfaces apart from conventional units is the onboard DSP acceleration. This version of the Twin X features duo-core DSP acceleration. This allows you to run the DSP-powered plugins from Apollo, with exclusive emulations from Neve, Lexicon, Capitol Studios, API, Manley, Ampex, Fender and more. The groundbreaking emulations have been meticulously crafted to sound as close to the original as possible. This puts vintage-gear back at the forefront, allowing you to capture sounds that have long been sought after.
The Apollo Twin X features two Unison-enabled preamps for live recording in your studio. These preamps mean you can get the best results from UA's amazing preamp emulations. These include Neve, Helios, API, Manley, UA and many more. This gives you a truly crisp sound which provides you with a range of sound profiles - from tube to solid-state.
Looking to expand your studio recording capabilities down the line. The Apollo Twin X allows you to easily connect up to four Thunderbolt Apollos and a total of six UAD-2 devices - meaning you can expand your studio as and when you need to. If you add a rack-mountable Apollo to your system, you can control it with the Apollo Twin X monitor control features.
The Apollo Twin X comes with a wide range of inputs and outputs to help you get the job. As well as the main inputs there are also outputs for headphones and a Hi-Z instrument input. Combined with two line outs and an ADAT/SPDIF input - you won't be stuck for connectivity options.
