Anti cramping technology
There is an inherent problem with the mathematics of digital filters. They will bring the level down to unity when they reach the Nyquist frequency of 20kHz. For example, if you're boosting at 10kHz with a wide bandwidth, you may think you are affecting frequencies above 20kHz as read by the graph on your EQ plug-in, but this will likely not be the case. Because of this, you may lose the 'airiness' and high-frequency lift you get when using analog equipment.
SSL have developed a proprietary system to correct this problem, ensuring that you get a symmetrical bell shape when boosting frequencies, even those that extend the Nyquist frequency. Whereas with other EQs you may need to adjust the samplerate of your project or oversample the plug-in internally, with SSL Native X-EQ 2 you don't! This is ideal as these other methods can introduce their own problems of latency or increased CPU usage. Instead, integrated into the plug-in, any filter shape you make won't be affected by this 'cramping', allowing you to get a much more linear response to find the exact sound you're looking for!
An EQ for each occaision
Functional for any application, EQ can make or break your session. It could be the difference between a muddy mess of instruments that clash for space or a pristine, clean and professional sound. With that in mind, you might think you need to reach for several different EQs in a session to find the right sound or application to suit everything a production needs? Wrong! The X-EQ 2 looks to replace all your existing EQs and proves a convincing point when you see the 24 bands on display.
24 bands offer 17 different filter types, including five cut filters for surgical removal of unwanted frequencies or carving a space for an instrument and nine bell shapes which can be used to control how the frequencies are boosted. Add to that traditional high and low shelves with multiple dB/oct slopes and custom high and low-pass filters and you have a very powerful EQ plug-in that's capable to be used on any instrument. Lastly, there is a parallel mode in which the EQ runs parallel with the dry signal, extremely handy for in-depth sculpting of your frequency curve whilst maintaining the original character of your track.
It's not just functional with different curves though. X-EQ 2 also includes Mid/Side modes and Left/Right spatial options. Perfect for working with stereo source material, you can independently sculpt the left and right channels for a balanced mix across the entire frequency spectrum and stereo image in one plug-in!
Engineered for modern producers
Designed to be as functional as it is exceptional sounding, the X-EQ 2 employs some clever additions to ensure it will be compatible with any kind of modern engineer or producer. It's highly CPU efficient, meaning you can run multiple instances and not encounter any unwanted artefacts or overloading of your computer processors, even on older machines. It also features draggable EQ bands, with per band solo and bypass to hear the moves you're making in isolation for surgical removal of resonances or other applications. Any changes you do make in your X-EQ 2 can be displayed in the real-time FFT analysis, with an overlay option to show the EQ changes you have made to your curve, providing crucial visual information on the response of your audio. This has all been built into a system with an extremely low noise floor with extremely low non-linear distortion algorithms.
