The King 650 flugel horn is the perfect instrument for musicians wanting a step-up horn. The bell of the flugel horn is made from a seamless piece of yellow brass which produces a broad sound with a responsive attack time. The yellow brass provides a nice balance between the various playing parameters, which makes it the most widely used and commonly played alloy in the world. Once the flugel has been constructed, a silver plate finish is applied to brighten sound and also keep the instrument looking newer for longer. The valves in the 650 flugel are crafted from monel which is a nickel and copper alloy. The majority of premium flugels have monel valves because it is very dense and is more resistant to corrosion, meaning they won't flake and are less likely to seize up.
The first King trombone was developed in 1894 and was viewed as a revelation to the music world. King had a reputation for engineering the best trombone slides, making them smoother, finer and lighter than any other trombone. Today, King use their musical heritage to continue to set high standards for modern day horns, combining both traditional techniques and modern-day processes into every instrument.
