Elegant Mahogany Body

Originally designed by car designer Ray Dietrich in the 1960s, who based the design on 1950's car tail-fins, the classic Firebird body shape provided the ultimate comfort and created a renowned style icon. The 2018 Firebird follows the classic lines of the original "reverse-body" Firebirds of 1960s, offering the iconic elongated offset upper horn and shorter, rounded lower horn to create its memorable ''flipped over'' appearance. The body is beautifully crafted from solid mahogany, delivering excellent resonance and superior sustain for a beautifully rich, warm tone with plenty of high-end sheen and midrange presence.

Slim Taper Neck & Headstock

The Gibson Firebird features a slim taper neck profile to provide incredibly fluid hand flexibility, creating the perfect guitar for playing solos. In keeping with its iconic design, the headstock has been carefully angled at 14 degrees to increase pressure on the strings, helping them stay in the nut slots for extra stability. An increase in string pressure also means there is no loss of string vibration between the nut and the tuners, improving sustain and delivering an overall better tone.

Torrefied Granadillo Fingerboard

This Gibson Firebird's fingerboard is crafted from stunning granadillo, delivering an incredibly bright response with an enhanced natural sustain and a ringing, bell-like tone. Its rosewood-like qualities make it perfect for a wide range of playing styles, offering singing notes with plenty of punch and high-end sparkle. The fingerboard's 22 frets have been cryogenically treated to provide extra strength and durability, enhancing resistance against abrasive wear.

Classic P90 Pickups

The Firebird is equipped with a set of Gibson’s classic P90 pickups, delivering the vintage single-coil tone that helped define blues and rock’n’roll. The pickups offer players a beautifully fat snarl, with plenty of crunch and bite to cut through any musical endeavour, while its bright characteristics give the Gibson plenty of midrange presence for added thickness. Along with amazing tonal sensitivity and classic soapbar covers, the P90s are wired with independent volume and tone controls along with a toggle switch for dialling in the perfect tone for any setting.

Aluminium Tune-O-Matic Bridge

As with many of the new Gibson models, the 2018 Firebird Guitar also features an aluminium tune-o-matic bridge. This type of bridge is an extremely popular fixed bridge due to its stability, reliability, comfortable playing position, and impressive sustain. Adjusting the string action and intonation is extremely simple with a tune-o-matic bridge, as you simply adjust its height with the mounting rods to alter the action, and screw the bridge saddles in or out to achieve perfect intonation.

TekToid Nut

The addition of a TekToid graphite nut offers increased harmonics in the middle and upper frequency range, perfect for creating a rich and detailed tone. TekToid Graphite is the best high-tech cure for eliminating undesirable friction within the nut, which can cause tuning problems. It is the ideal choice for a guitar nut, as it has excellent conductive qualities which benefit a guitar’s tone and sustain.
